IBEW 55
Chartered in 1897 the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #55 now has over 1000 members and its jurisdiction covers all but seven of Iowa’s 99 counties. IBEW Local 55 represents members in outside powerline construction, tree trimming, cable TV construction. telephone /communication and municipal and Rural Electric Cooperatives.
Working with our other IBEW outside construction locals in surrounding states and in partnership with the National Electrical Contractors Association, NECA, we have upgraded our training facility, Missouri Valley Apprenticeship, by building a new 11.5 million state of the art training center in Indianola, IA. This 50 acre facility has the ability to train Apprentices in all aspects of overhead and underground powerline construction, substation construction, traffic control and equipment operation.
With over 124 years in the ever changing power and communication industries, the Local continues to grow and so does its strength and ability to represent its membership. Local 55, again in partnership with our signatory contractors, is providing highly skilled workers to help with the expanding need for rural high speed internet and also help Iowa become one of the leading states in wind and solar power.
You don’t get to be one of the oldest local’s around by not caring, that’s why the members of Local 55 have always believed in giving back to the communities that help support them and were proud to be a sponsor again this year of Make-A-Wish Iowa and Jolly Holiday Lights.
